The Society: “We’ll be looking to focus our chapter’s attentions on development of programs and events which will be most relevant to the younger estimator. We’ll be sending out successful program ideas from chapters to other chapters. We’ll be using modern technology and industry partnerships to bring more “micro programming” educational opportunities to the membership. We have chapters in development in 16 areas around the United States and we aim to see at least 1⁄2 of them move to regular meetings. ASPE is working on partnerships with AGC National, our estimating academy programs will hit 3 cities in the next year, with CSI to study the benefits of certification to company profits and with AACE, ABC and RICS in BIM studies. . . .”.— (This is an excerpt from a letter to all ASPE members from our Executive Director—Ed Walsh”

The Chapter: Your Board of Directors is excited about our future as we develop new programs and move into new leadership roles. Rising on the horizon are opportunities to development a viable cooperative student chapter at IPFW, entering into interactive relationships with other new and existing organizations here in Fort Wayne and Northern Indiana and becoming a responsive and responsible part of the construction community in this area. With the valuable input from our diversified board and our new and existing members, we will continue to be the main source for construction estimating resources in Fort Wayne and Allen County.

General Services Administration (GSA) Recognizes ASPE Certification

Washington , DC- . The GSA Document PER-120 (Professional Estimating Requirements for Public Building Service) has recently been revised and approved by the GSA National Office in Washington, D.C. They are in the process of printing 40,000 copies. This document will be given out to the A-E Community in the coming months and also will be available within the web. Please search in www.gsa.gov until the exact website has been established.

The GSA has expanded its estimator qualification provision: “Although not required, certification by the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) as a Certified Professional Estimator or Cost Engineer by the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), is supporting evidence of an estimator’s qualification.” “The standards of practice described within the Canons of Ethics, published by the American Society of Professional Esti- mators (ASPE) ) shall be applied to all estimating services.

eBid eXchange and Sage Timberline Estimating

Seattle, WA – December 17, 2008 – Having been accepted into the Sage Timberline Estimating Development partner program in 2008, eBid Systems has announced an early 2009 release for its eBid eXchange – Sage Timberline Estimating connector (XT Connector). The XT Connector will provide a seamless integration between its eBid eXchange bid management system and the industry-leading Sage Timberline Estimating program. The initial release of the XT Connector will provide automated, bi-directional synchronization of the Timberline Address Book with the online vendor database in eBid eXchange. Using an automated web service, contact information entered and updated in either system will be automatically synchronized between the applications on a regular basis. For new customers of eBid eXchange, this will allow them to immediately populate the eBid eXchange vendor database with records from their Timberline Address Book. Use of the XT Connector will eliminate the need to re-enter subcontractor records in multiple systems. Work on additional integrations with Sage Timberline Estimating will begin in early 2009. The next phase of improvements to the XT Connector will focus on the ability to upload a project estimate into eBid eXchange, receive online bids from vendors in eBid eXchange, and import the bid and award data into Sage Timberline Estimating .
